    I have the Voigtlander 75, 90 and the Leica 135 (1962 version). Of the 3, the 90 I use the most, followed by the 75, ten there are those times the the 135 gives me the reach. Of the 3, a used 135 (Leica) can be had cheaper than the other 2.

    For when "a rangefinder just isn't the right answer"...Yes, exactly! I agonised for ages about the Visoflex , but now I've got one for my M11, I find it invaluable for the extra flexibility it adds to the usual Leica experience. I use it for unconventional or very wide focal lengths; when I'm doing careful architectural or other geometric shots where the level and precise framing of the evf makes a difference; or with my Zeiss C-sonnar or other hard-to-focus lenses, eg to avoid the focus shift problems, or just to nail focus with the evf zoom. I don't use it for general walking around type shooting, where I much prefer the traditional RF focusing, but it's great to have in the bag for the specific times I need it.

    The thermometer in TCS-1000 seems to be quite accurate. Also, you can adjust the temperature by 0.1°C. Most sous vide sticks for cooking have an accuracy of about one degree. Also, the motor for moving the water around is quite powerful. This means the water bath will be the same temperature throughout the vessel. One minus is that the light can´t be switched off, and the appliance must be covered somehow if using it when printing RA-4. One good solution is putting a small Paterson tank on it. It will block the light completely.

    Great format for your video. And a huge shoutout to the quality of your Voigtländer 28 mm lens. I decided on the 28 mm Elmarit from Leica, and it's just such a great versatile easy to shoot with lens and produces wonderful results. I use it a lot even if I try to also get more and more familiar with my 50 mm. I rarely want for anything other than the two, even though I also have a 35 mm Nokton and a 90 mm Elmarit

    *EVF for a camera that costs as much as a camera. 😅 3.7MP is also awfully low if you consider that flagship EVFs from sony are around 9MP. It think 75 is too close to 50, also 90 is cheaper most of the times.

  • @simonhill6744

    Hello @goughie I’ve used most of the 75’s and 90’s and frankly the one I really adore is the 75mm 2.4 Summarit. Lightweight, super sharp, easiest to focus. Also with my M11P and M11M with 60mb and the cropping feature allows it to be roughly a 100mm at 40mb and a 135mm at 20mb. At this point the Visioflex comes in handy!! Pair it with a 28mm and that then also gives you 36mm lens at 40mb and a 50mm at roughly 20mb. People often overlook this but the M11’s 60mb means you need to take fewer lenses for a wider coverage than with the M10 series. For me I found the 90mm F2 APO irrelevant and too heavy once I had my M11’s. The 90mm 1.5 is stunning but it’s huge and doesn’t really work on an M series.

    Just bought mine a couple weeks ago. Im still with a smile on my face everytime I pick it up. Bought it because I wanted something as small and light as possible but with an optical viewfinder. Enough of screens, i even turn off the rear lcd. Nowadays our eyes are allways looking at one, now even when taking photos. Never tried, but i read that removing the magnification makes ovf brighter on the 3. It really would be good for me, as i shoot in the dark often and sometimes I sadly have to switch to the evf. But it has the ribbon cabble issue and no d-pad...

    It's a tool, and it might tarnish the "rangefinder" purist perspective, but honestly, it's perfect for composing with my 18SEM and 75APO especially at night or low light. I've really been enjoying the 75 it's not a 90 so it's a bit more forgiving. I'm tried the Voigtlander 75 Nokton which was fantastic but ended up selling it. The 75APO is great for portraits, travel and can do some light macro work with its 1:7 magnification ratio. Great video as always!

    The cheapest usable telphoto-like has to be the 90/4 Elmar-c. I picked on up recently for $165 USD from KEH. I think they average around $250 USD. So far, I love it. Maybe it's just what I shoot, but the performance has been shockingly good. For a proper new budget lens, the Voigtlander 75/1.5 Nokton is king of the hill, for sure. What a spectacular lens. I'll probably pick up the EVF eventually though, as I like to shoot against the sun quite a bit- and the OVF means instant blinding ha. I'm on the M240 though, so I can get the cheap old olympus.

  • @dzkilnd
    @dzkilnd 4 дні тому

    Aside from focus benefits, I found a possible use case--what you see is what you get. Meaning, when you look through the rangefinder window, it's slightly offset from what the sensor sees. I notice this especailly with film and architectural shots.

  • @wilfredshum3703
    @wilfredshum3703 4 дні тому

    I think it depends on the lenses used. Some modern M lenses with close focus need it for that function on M cameras. Of course, the other better option for long lenses is to switch over to SL cameras.

    Great video! Thanks for making one - would have been awesome before I picked one up. Gotta love the comments and purest. I recently picked up a used VisioFlex2 at a great price and love it. It's not a IF or THAT. 1) I would ALWAYS rather have it in my bag than not. 2) The waist level and tillable EVF is a wonderful. 3) As some have commented - it doesn't replace the OVF and the rangefinder experience. The OVF/Rangefinder experience is far different from the EVF and I would HATE the EVF in most casual or street / documentary shooting situations. For portraits wide open it's excellent. Also when you have it mounted on the camera it doesn't prohibit you from using the OVF/rangefinder so you have the option for OVF/EVF/Rear LCD interchangeably.

    I have the X-T5 as recently added an X-E1 for the kids to use - I enjoyed its 'analogue' feel so much I got sucked into buying the X-Pro 2 - and wow, I'm so glad I did. I am picking the X-Pro 2 up more than the X-T5, as it's perfect for the everyday social environment. Teamed with a wide prime, it's great on a day out. Often I team it with the 23mm f2 you had, or even better, my pancake Fuji 27mm WR, and it's super inconspicuous. I've even occasionally used my Helios 44-2, and it takes such warm photos. I agree; the X-Pro 2 is an absolute blinder of a camera-I think I'd let my X-T5 go before the X-Pro 2.

    @Goughie Thanks for the clear video! Have you considered to purchase a 1.4x converter to compensate for the max 300 mm of the 70-300? I own this lens as well and I am wondering if this would help me to extend the reach to 420. Or, would this cause a significant drop in autofocus performance and image quality? Another option is to change the settings to 1.4 digital conversion. This obviously will bring the 40 mp of my XT5 down to about 20. But that may be good enough for my occasional bird photography. It will at least not cost an extra stop of ISO.

    Just got a M11 and my first Leica, got a Ultron 35mm and 90mm - I tried 28mm equivalent on Fuji and just couldn't quite get used to it so went for 35mm rather than a 28 and 50, but went mid telephoto if I really wanted a proper portrait or background compression. I'd say 40mm is my sweet spot so it's sad that there aren't the frame lines in the rangefinder. Sub'd!

    If you ever decide you want a 35mm again, but as you mentioned size being a consideration, definitely pick up the 35mm Color Skopar f2.5. It is incredibly underrated, and designed after the 35mm Summicron v4.

    I understand how a focal length can seem to be a “jack of all trades, but master of none,” and therefore become unloved, but, in my personal case, that is 28mm. I have the Elmarit-M 28mm Version III, which I like for its ability to render a cinematic flare, and because using the distance and DOF scales, to set the focus to a specific pre-judged distance, is easier than with 35mm lenses, but, I am not in love with the focal length, itself. When I use my amazingly good Nikon Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E, on a D850, I have developed the habit of setting the camera to the 4:5 aspect ratio, which has the effect of cropping to something closer to 35mm. It is not that I am “defending” the Summilux-M 35mm ASPH FLE, itself. I opted for the Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/1.4 ZM. Later, I when I visited a Leica dealer, which had a demonstrator FLE, I did a “shoot-off,” with that demonstrator FLE, my Distagon, and a pre-owned, well-preserved Summilux Version II, from the Sixties, which the dealer had for sale. My Distagon won that one, with the background bokeh being a significant reason. Plus, the Distagon distorts straight lines less than the FLE. Later, I bought a “Re-Edition” Steel Rim Summilux-M 35mm, for the times I want a somewhat vintage look. (At that time, almost a year ago, the asking prices for pre-owned, first-version FLEs, in the USA, was higher than the official Leica USA price for a new Re-Edition Steel Rim.) Actually, there is a part of me that would like to eventually add an FLE, specifically for photographing people, who are in front of backgrounds that will not show the “busy” bokeh effect. Even a pre-owned FLE would be an expensive addition, for a lens that would fill a niche role, so, I am not saying that this is likely to happen. To digress a bit, I think that 24mm has become my “new 28mm,” on Leica M, because the Elmar-M 24mm ASPH is such a wonderful lens, optically, though I do need to pay much more attention to holding the camera very much level, when using anything wider than 28mm. It is good to hear that you continue to favor the Summilux-M 50. 🙂 That is one of the things that keeps me watching your presentations. The Summilux-M 50 ASPH is what lured me into adding the Leica M system, in early 2018, and remains my most-favored M-mount lens.

    35mm focal lens is fine with M system, but 1.4 aperture is useless : save money with a summicron.
